{"id":1581,"date":"2012-02-17T10:27:19","date_gmt":"2012-02-17T17:27:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.roughtype.com\/wp\/?p=1581"},"modified":"2012-02-17T10:27:19","modified_gmt":"2012-02-17T17:27:19","slug":"more_on_book_bu","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.roughtype.com\/?p=1581","title":{"rendered":"More on book bundling"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Following up on my <a href=\"https:\/\/www.roughtype.com\/archives\/2012\/01\/why_publishers.php\">earlier post<\/a> suggesting that publishers include a free copy of an ebook with a sale of a print book, here&#8217;s a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.publishersweekly.com\/pw\/by-topic\/industry-news\/bookselling\/article\/50509-is-the-time-right-for-bundling-.html\">piece<\/a> from Publishers Weekly reviewing some of the pros and cons of book bundling as well as a <a href=\"http:\/\/mhpbooks.com\/49000\/is-bundling-ebooks-with-print-books-a-good-idea\/\">response<\/a> from a publisher. Both pieces quote Bloomsbury USA sales exec Evan Schnittman, who argues that an e\/print bundle could be sold for a higher price than a print book alone. I don&#8217;t see that approach making much of a dent in the marketplace (who wants to pay more for a book at this point?); in fact, it might well backfire (by making readers even more sensitive to the price premium of printed books, particularly hard covers, in comparison to ebooks).
