Big Switch: now shipping

December 21, 2007

I'm pleased to report that Amazon.com has begun shipping The Big Switch. I'm not going to be so crassly mercantilistic as to suggest that you rush to purchase a copy or three, but I will say this: Imagine the joy on the faces of your loved ones when they find the book nestled under the tree on Tuesday morning.

Advertisement: Are you ready for "The Big Switch"? Fast Company calls Nicholas Carr's new book "compulsively readable - for nontechies, too." Salon says it's "magisterial." Order now from Amazon.com.

While I would read The Big Switch somehow my vision of my wife opening a gift box on Holiday Morning makes visions of sleeping on the couch with the dog dance through my head.

Great news, but strangely enough my order says "Shipping estimate: January 7, 2008" even though I pre-ordered it a long time ago.

That may be related to the concept of eventually consistent data.

As one of the fortunate, chuffed early receivers I have already pored over The Big Switch. It was such a great, great read I decided to re-cycle it and pass it on knowing that many might not be able to consider it as a “must read” until after the fact. I therefore take’th away possible customers for this book but hopefully give’th new for any future works!

Have a healthy Holiday Mr. Carr!

You're a mean one, Mr. Nick.
You really are a heel.
You're as cuddly as a cactus,
You're as charming as an eel.
Mr. Nick.

Don't make the same mistake I just did and read The Big Switch on Christmas morning. The epilogue is far too depressing. Read it on Boxing Day instead.

Hi Nick

wish I had found it under the xmas tree: it was on my list indeed. Unfortunately, it's not yet available at the local Barnes&noble. Guess I ll wait 'til Jan. 7. I'm sure it's worth the wait.

Hello, Nick,

I enjoyed your book a lot and I have written a very long blog on it, in French.

You can use “’Google translate” to have a reasonable translation in English.

I had a hard time translating the title in French because of the double meaning of Switch in English.

I would like to make a suggestion :
You should have, on your blog, a page where all the “Web links” listed at the end of your book are directly accessible.
This would make it easier for your readers to use them !
