Off the plantation

September 28, 2007

I have ceased running AdSense ads on this blog. They were ineffectual and often silly.

Advertisement: Are you ready for "The Big Switch"? Fast Company calls Nicholas Carr's new book "compulsively readable - for nontechies, too." Salon says it's "magisterial." Order now from Amazon.com.

Thanks, nick! But at least you saw first hand how adsense/adwords is gamed, which is useful information.

I read this post in my RSS reader accompanied by a Yahoo text ad in the feed. (An ad for Google, appropriately enough.)

Are we to assume you find Yahoo's ads less silly?

No, you're to assume that I'm close to Yahoo's $100 minimum payment threshold. After I pass it, the ad will go. (If it bugs you, you can just resubscribe using the Feedburner feed above, which I don't believe has an ad.)

Nick, the ads might not work for your site, but I find their advertising relevant and effective on Smallbiztechnology.com

Just to clarify my previous comment, none of the ads bug me, and in fact I make much of my income from running much more bothersome ads on my sites...

Although I find AdSense has trouble being relevant for all but one of my sites.
